Statements allegedly made by US Vice President Kamala Harris regarding the US forces’ targeting in Jordan, close to the Syrian border, have been spread on social media accounts lately. These claims are fabricated, according to the search.
Through copying and pasting, the accounts spread fake statements, claiming Vice President Harris said: “The targeting of US forces in Jordan followed the recent meeting in Astana between Turkey, Iran, and Russia.”
“The targeting implements the secret provisions of the Astana agreements and is adverse to US national security interests in the region,” according to the complaint. Furthermore, it asserts that the US “will not withdraw its forces from Syria and will provide its forces and local allies with all essential support to protect the region.”
After searching on Google, Facebook, and X, the True Platform team did not find any proof for the claims attributed to Vice President Harris.
Searching Vice President Harris’s official X account, a tweet from January 28 differs greatly from the statements that are circulated.
Three US soldiers lost their lives near the Syrian border in northern Jordan,” Harris tweeted. She and her husband, Douglas Emhoff, described the attack as “a horrific act by Iran-backed extremist organizations.”
Vice President Harris stated: “As President Joe Biden has made clear, we will continue the fight against terrorism and hold all responsible parties accountable.”
Conclusion:
The claim attributed to US Vice President Kamala Harris that the targeting of US forces on the Jordanian-Syrian border is connected to the Astana meetings is fabricated.
