Recently, fake and personal reports on the X platform have gone viral, claiming that “Kurdish mercenaries” are fighting with the Israeli army in its war with Hamas in Gaza.
The aforementioned accounts shared the purported news alongside a photograph of three Kurd fighters. Numerous individuals commented on the majority of these tweets, employing language that incited hatred towards the Kurdish community.
Dozens of accounts reposted the same phrase that says: “Kurdish mercenaries are fighting in the ranks of the Zionists in Gaza.”
The True Platform team investigated the matter, employing a reverse image search using Google.
The search revealed that the photograph had been previously published by a Turkish website affiliated with the Workers’ Party in January 2023, under the caption “Zagros guerrillas.”
The search on the X platform revealed The claim’s source is an account named Abdul Rahman Al-Khatib. This account has the blue verification mark next to its name and identifies himself as a “Muslim, author, journalist, politician, former prisoner; I do not recognize the Assad regime; I have been out of my country for 41 years.”
More than 450 individuals engaged with Al-Khatib’s tweet, which received approximately 120 retweets and over 130 comments.
The research provided no evidence or reports on the participation of “Kurdish mercenaries” with any side in the ongoing war in Gaza.
